The Early Years Foundation Stage framework

In Legacy Prep. School, we follow the statutory framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We meet the requirement of the educational programme in relation to the seven areas of learning and development and the characteristic of effective learning. We strongly believe that learning should be fun and meaningful. We plan exciting educational experiences based on four overarching EYFS principles of: A unique child, positive relationships, enabling environment and learning and development

The Preparatory School has two units
• Pre-school
• Key Stages 1 and 2

The Pre-school

Learning in the Pre-school is based on the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum framework which sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old. Aspects of the framework are based on ‘Areas of Learning’ at the end of which a child is assessed. Classes of the Pre-School begin with a Pre-Nursery and ends with the Reception classes.

Pupils are taught and play active roles in learning based on a blend of the British and Nigerian curricula. Subjects taught are divided into ‘core’ subjects comprising English, Mathematics and Science and ‘foundation’ subjects comprising a number of subjects from which the most suitable are drawn. Pupils in Year 6 are able to sit the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint organised by Cambridge International Examinations and various common entrance examinations organised by schools nationally.
Coupled with the curricular activities at the Key Stages 1 and 2 are co-curricular activities that assist a child in an all-round development. Clubs in the school through which this objective is attained include the Taekwondo club, Ballet/dance club, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) club, Art club, etc.
The Key Stages 1 and 2 also have a special Learning Support programme through which pupils are supported in attaining their best.
